A long afternoon for deputies began on Wednesday afternoon when they spotted Lexington Park resident Davione Syheme Mason, 23 - who was wanted on an open warrant for multiple offenses - inside the passenger's seat of a GMC Yukon in Hollywood.
The incident began shortly after 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 in the southbound lanes of MD Route 235 and ended with a vehicle in the front yard of a California home.
According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, while surveilling the truck, deputies watched the driver - later identified as 25-year-old Tyquan Samuel Wills, also of Lexington Park - strike the back of another car and flee the area.
They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Wills took off, leading to a short-lived pursuit that ended when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road, and came to rest in front of a residence in the 22000 block of Old Rolling Road in California.
Wills fled on foot, while Mason was found in an area residence and taken into custody without further incident.
Mason was wanted on the warrant for:
- Attempted second-degree murder;
- First-degree assault;
- Reckless endangerment;
- Illegal possession of a regulated firearm;
- illegal possession of ammunition;
- Handgun on person;
- Possession of a loaded handgun.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said that deputies located Wills in a nearby business area as he was trying to flee while hiding in a Chrysler being driven by Azse Ktemaque Hawkins, 36, of Prince Frederick, who was found to be intoxicated during a subsequent traffic stop, where it was determined the driver was under the influence.
Hawkins and Wills were both taken into custody, and the latter was found with "a significant (amount) of cocaine and related paraphernalia."
Wills was charged with:
- CDS: Possession of not marijuana;
- CDS: Possession with intent to distribute;
- Two counts of CDS: Possession of paraphernalia;
- Fleeing and eluding by vehicle;
- Fleeing and eluding by foot;
- Two counts of hit-and-run with property damage;
- Multiple traffic violations.
All three were taken to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown. No details about their next court appearances have been released.
